Made from natural resin uniquely mixed to represent palettes of oil paint, this Visconti Van Gogh series is inspired by the artist's color and technique. Each pen represents a specific Van Gogh painting. The pen utilizes Visconti's eighteen-faceted design, with the many edges enhancing its vivid colors. This Starry Night fountain pen features a stainless steel nib. A converter is included, and it also accepts standard international short cartridges. It comes packaged in a gift box with a reproduction of the painting.

Now available as a gift set with a matching bottle of ink and a special edition bookmark.

We do our best to photograph the pens to show how they will appear in person, but due to the nature of the material, expect some variation in the pattern from what you see here.

Beautiful Pen Terrible Feed

Vincent Van Gogh is my favorite artist of all time, and Starry Night is perhaps his greatest work in my eyes, though it is hard pick a favorite. This pen has quite the legacy to live up to in just being based on that painting. Mine is more reminiscent of Starry Night over the Rhône than it is of Starry Night; it's the lack of bright yellows and oranges. This is not an issue because it is still incredibly beautiful. I could wax on about how gorgeous the pen is, but the three stars looms over head.

My Van Gogh is a 1.1 Stub, and until about 2 hours ago it was a dry writing, irritating to use, **** of a pen. I bought this thing in 2018, and I've spent far to many days trying different inks, different ways of holding the pen, different pressures trying to get this thing to write. I adjusted the tines to be wider, narrower. I tried wetter inks, drier inks, and hand made mixtures. Nothing seemed to work. So tonight, February 13th, 2025, I finally grew the courage to pull the nib and feed out of the housing and give the feed an extremely thorough inspection. The ink channel in my feed was clogged, not with ink, but with a small chunk of ebonite. Having removed that, and done some very slight deepening of the channel, the pen now writes better than it ever has, and has propelled itself to being my second favorite writer after my pair of Lamy 2000s. So why 3 stars? For almost $300, this pen should have been writing like this out of the box. I'd be ok with the nib needing a small amount of tuning, but having to pull out the feed just to find a tiny chunk of ebonite clogging the feed up and slowing the ink flow significantly, no that's unacceptable. Homo Sapiens just fell off of Grail pen status because of this. I love this pen, but had it been writing like this from the get go, it'd be 5 stars all the way. I will likely never purchase a new Visconti ever again because of this.

Loved graduation gift

I recently purchased this pen as a graduation gift for my daughter. She loved it -- it writes beautifully and choosing fountain over rollerball turned out to be perfect. It writes beautifully and the little bit of extra effort to fill it is actually a plus, and makes it seem a little more "fancy" :)

My grail pen is mine!

I absolutely am enamored by this pen. It writes like silk right out of the box. I had heard complaints that the colors of the pen are too muted, but I think they are true to Van Gogh's color palate for Starry Night. My favorite pen of my collection bar none!

Wonderful Pen

I've never quite understood people's passion for fountain pens. Whenever I've heard people in the past discussing a "fountain pen collection", I just shrugged, and thought to myself, "I don't get it". I bought my first fountain pen. This one. Now I get it. The pen feels wonderful in my hands, writes smoothly and beautifully, and it's made writing fun again. I've received several compliments while using it.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I use this pen with ink cartridges? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

A cartridge is small, disposable, sealed plastic reservoir that holds fountain pen ink. These come pre-filled with ink, and typically you just push to insert them into place and you'll be ready to write!

This pen uses standard international ink cartridges, a common size which is available in many colors from various brands.

You can learn more about how to actually install an ink cartridge on our blog, or in this video tutorial:

How do I use a converter? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

A converter goes in the place of where the ink cartridge would normally go. From there, you can fill your fountain pen from bottled ink.

A converter is a detachable and refillable ink reservoir that allows you to use bottled ink in a cartridge-accepting pen. Typically you will install the converter into the grip section, dip the nib/feed into the ink, and twist or pull the converter knob to draw ink into the converter.

We have a great video showing how to use a converter here:

How do I clean this fountain pen? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

It mostly comes down to flushing out the pen with water, and sometimes a little bit of pen flush if the ink is really stuck.

We put together a blog post with step-by-step instructions, or you can watch the video here:

We recommend a good cleaning every 2 weeks, and any time you change ink colors. Water will usually do the trick, but we recommend you use our Goulet Pen Flush if the ink has been left in the pen for a while and could have dried up, or when you’re switching ink colors.
