The Pilot Parallel fountain pen is a major breakthrough in calligraphy pen design. The unique parallel plate structure achieves a more beautiful and sharper handwriting than existing calligraphy pens. This product comes with a Parallel pen with a 2.4mm stub italic nib, one black and one red ink cartridge, a converter to flush the pen, and a nib cleaner.

Using two Pilot Parallel Pens, each with different Pilot Parallel Mixable color cartridges, you produce beautifully gradated lettering by touching the nibs together before writing. To use with bottled fountain pen ink, the Pilot Con-40 converter works best (sold separately).

A good highlighter that you don't throw to the garbage!

I use it as a highlighter and eyedropper with Pelikan M205 Duo High Lighter ink.

Terrible

I wanted to like this. The price was right, easy to hold, and a good weight. Sadly the ink flow is inconsistent refilling is a painful process that doesn't work well at all. You get enough ink to use it for a day or two, then you're back to trying to go through the painful refill process.

Excellent calligraphy pens

I've only recently started to get back into calligraphy after a couple of decades away, so I needed some new pens to get going. I'm a big fan of fountain pens, but memories of some of the entry level calligraphy fountain pens from the 90s made me a bit reluctant to try again. After reading some reviews and watching a couple of review videos, I decided to purchase the 1.5 mm and 2.4 mm pens. These pens are an incredibly good value for the quality they provide. The barrel and cap of the pen are simple, budget plastic, but they're sturdy enough. This helps keep the cost down. The feeder system and nib is where this pen shines. The feeder seems like your standard Pilot system, which has been pretty reliable in my experience. The nib is a new design. It took a little bit of coaxing to get the ink down to the tip of the nib, but once it was there, this pen wrote incredibly smoothly. No skipping, no dragging, and it lays down a consistent line on the page. After an initial practice session, I didn't have the chance to write with them again for over a month. Six weeks later, they immediately wrote as smoothly as had I only set them down for five minutes. I've since bought the rest of the set (the 3.8 mm and the 6.0 mm) and I couldn't be happier. I'm a fan of cartridge converters, so I bought the recommended converter for each pen as well (Pilot CON-40). The ink tests were with the standard Pilot ink that came with the pens. I'm looking forward to trying out some other inks to see how well they work with these pens. I've just cleaned out the nibs using the included cleaning tool and Speedball pen cleaner. They clean out very quickly and easily. Overall, I happily recommend these calligraphy pens!

Fine for experimenting with

Bought out of curiosity. Cheap, good to try out. I wouldn't recommend for much more than that.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I fill this pen from an ink cartridge? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

A cartridge is small, disposable, sealed plastic reservoir that holds fountain pen ink. These come pre-filled with ink, and typically you just push to insert them into place and you'll be ready to write!

This pen uses proprietary Pilot ink cartridges, which are available in a wide range of colors.

You can learn more about how to actually install an ink cartridge on our blog, or in this video tutorial:

How do I use a converter? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

A converter goes in the place of where the ink cartridge would normally go. From there, you can fill your fountain pen from bottled ink.

A converter is a detachable and refillable ink reservoir that allows you to use bottled ink in a cartridge-accepting pen. Typically you will install the converter into the grip section, dip the nib/feed into the ink, and twist or pull the converter knob to draw ink into the converter.

We have a great video showing how to use a converter here:

How do I clean this fountain pen? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

It mostly comes down to flushing out the pen with water, and sometimes a little bit of pen flush if the ink is really stuck.

We put together a blog post with step-by-step instructions, or you can watch the video here:

We recommend a good cleaning every 2 weeks, and any time you change ink colors. Water will usually do the trick, but we recommend you use our Goulet Pen Flush if the ink has been left in the pen for a while and could have dried up, or when you’re switching ink colors.
