Noodler's Bad Belted Kingfisher

I tried samples of Noodler's Bad Belted Kingfisher and Bad Blue Heron. Kingfisher seems a tiny bit darker and a tiny bit bluer when using a Metropolitan fine. Color difference is more apparent when using the stub nib. Both write well with the fine point but seem wetter than the Noodler's Black when using the stub. Kingfisher in my Metal Falcon SEF showed how much wetter it really is than Noodler's Black. However a light touch keeps flow at an acceptable rate. I like both of these blues but prefer the Kingfisher.

Reliable Blue

Beautiful blue ink, fast drying, reliable. Just like the rest of Noodler's inks!

Great value; solid color

I bought this ink while trying out a variety of blues. I'm interested in only water-resistant inks and I love Noodler's value.

First bottled ink

Eyedropped into a Platinum Preppy with an XF nib. On Rhodia, works beautifully. Flow is perfect. Very saturated color, almost blue-black. Color was my only disappointment; was hoping for a more vivid blue. But that's why Goulet offers samples. :-) Thanks again, GP!

Nice alternative to black

I was looking for a permanent blue ink so I tried this and Liberty's Elysium. This is a nice alternative to black ink, but not what I was looking for. It's very dark. I like the vibrance of Liberty's Elysium more, but I would definitely use this in a situation where darker colors seemed more professional.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I fill my fountain pen from an ink sample vial? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

The technique depends on the fountain pen's filling mechanism.

Check out our blog post on How to Fill a Fountain Pen from an Ink Sample Vial, or watch the video here:

How much writing can I really do with 2ml? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

We find that usually you can get 2 good fills for a typical converter with our ink samples, or one good fill with a large capacity piston-filling pen.

How much writing you can do depends on you more than anything else. It mostly depends on how big or small you write, and the nib size you’re using. We recommend experimenting with different nib sizes to find what works best for you.
