Nice "daily driver" red

This came in an 8-ink sample pack and was the first one I tried. I was not expecting too much from a red ink because for me, anyway, red has some limitations. That said, this ink looks very nice on white, cream, or yellow paper, and could easily be used on a daily basis (it's not fire-engine red)

I experienced zero smudging in my daily journal as well as good flow in a both a Lamy Safari (EF) and Twsbi Diamond (EF) - no skips or difficulty writing long paragraphs. I wanted to try it with a dry nib, but I used the whole sample be I realized it!

The color is well saturated and opaque in my 1917 journal, but I bet it could be semi-transparent if you used a wetter nib like a B or Italic, where it could pool a bit at the bottoms of the letters. Used on cheap paper (a yellow legal pad of dubious origin courtesy of the office supply closet at work) the color becomes a very pleasant maroon, but in the 1917 journal, it is identical to what I see on the monitor when I have this page on the screen.

After using the sample to the last drop, I added this to my next order list :)

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I fill my fountain pen from an ink sample vial? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

The technique depends on the fountain pen's filling mechanism.

How much writing can I really do with 2ml? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

We find that usually you can get 2 good fills for a typical converter with our ink samples, or one good fill with a large capacity piston-filling pen.

How much writing you can do depends on you more than anything else. It mostly depends on how big or small you write, and the nib size you’re using. We recommend experimenting with different nib sizes to find what works best for you.
