50ml Bottle

This 50ml glass bottle of Jacques Herbin 1798 Amethyste de l’Oural fountain pen ink is a deep rich purple in the velvety hue of a rare gemstone. A silver mist provides a lustrous shimmering and sheen effect. Each bottle cap is hand dipped in sealing wax, with a stamped "1798" seal on the front of the bottle, and is individually packaged in a collector edition box.

Amethyste de l'Oural means Ural Amethyst or Ural Mountain Amethyst, and suggests the color of royalty. This ancient amethyst gemstone from the gates of Asia was prized for its calming, meditative and lucid dreaming qualities.

1798 commemorates a significant year in Jacques Herbin's history. At this time, the French Revolution was ending, and the Herbin company, founded in 1670, was growing. In 1798 the company relocated to expand their production capabilities and the influence of their inks and sealing wax.

Due to the amount of particulate in this ink used to achieve the sparking look, you may experience restricted ink flow in some of your pens. We recommend shaking the ink thoroughly before filling and gently rolling the pen in your hands often to keep the shimmer effect consistent. This will also help prevent clogging. You will also want to be diligent about cleaning and maintaining your pen when using this ink.

Amazing Ink

This ink is amazing. I have tried at least 6 different inks. This one has performed the best. In many instances the glitter agent blocks the nibs if medium or below. This ink has performed well in all of my pens. I rank above my similar diamine pazazz but below my peacock flare.

Jacques Herbin 1798 Amethyste de l'Oural ink

What a lovely and brilliant ink. It's deep and rich with a slight but visible sheen. Nothing understated about this color, its chroma and value makes writing and sketching a pleasure. I love it. Will definitely get some more of it!- jac

The best purple out there

This is flat out the best purple out there. The ink itself is the perfect shade, a nice medium-dark purple, and when you add in the shimmer it is just spectacular to look at. It flows very well and writes very nicely, though it does take a while to dry. I've had zero issues with this ink across multiple fillings, though some pens will be less friendly to shimmers. All in all, another absolute win of an ink from Herbin.

Purple!!!

This ink is great, dries fairly well once on the paper, and easy to draw into a fountain pen. Fantastic.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which pens can accept this ink? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

Any of these fountain pens will work with bottled ink. Typically, as long as the pen can be filled with a converter, has a built-in filling mechanism like a piston, or can be eyedropper-filled, it can accept bottled ink. You can also refill an empty ink cartridge from bottled ink using an ink syringe.

Is shimmering ink safe to use in fountain pens? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

Yes! Shimmering ink (a fountain pen ink that has small particles of glitter mixed in) is a great way to add some flare to your writing. We have found that a larger nib will showcase more shimmering particles while writing, but you can use any nib size with shimmering ink. While it is safe to use in fountain pens, it may require a little extra maintenance.

Due to the amount of particulate in this ink used to achieve the sparking look, you may experience restricted ink flow in some of your pens, especially with finer nibs.

We recommend shaking the ink thoroughly before filling, and gently rolling the pen in your hands often to keep the shimmer effect consistent. This will also help prevent clogging.

You will also want to be diligent about regularly cleaning and maintaining your pen when using this ink.
