In crafting the TACCIA Miyabi Wajima Azure Wave fountain pen, the maki-e artist employed the exquisite Kawari Nuri technique, infusing it with captivating blue hues. The Kawari-Nuri, a technique dating back to the early 17th centuries, originated from the innovative experimentation with diverse material and structures.
In this precise process, the artist begins by carefully selecting an appropriate amount of Urushi, applying it to the designated area of a pen via a stippling method using a special brush, and allowing it to dry. This sequence is repeated for each color in the design. Once the Urushi dots have been applied and dried, the artist meticulously rubs the surface to achieve a smooth finish. If unsatisfied, he starts anew, ensuring perfection in every details.
This TACCIA Miyabi fountain pen has urushi lacquer in a speckled pattern, with accents of gold, and is accented by silver trim. The airtight cushion seal cap allows for a snug closure. Each limited edition fountain pen is individually numbered out of 20 on the bottom of the barrel.
Each fountain pen is made by hand in TACCIA's Urushi studio in Wajima. It comes fitted with a bi-color 18k gold nib made in Japan. And to bring historical craftsmanship into your hand, each series is limited and signed by the maki-e artisan.
This fountain pen comes packaged in a wooden gift box and comes with a cloth pen sleeve. The pen fills with either a proprietary Sailor converter or Sailor ink cartridges; both are included.
Please also note we are unable to accept a return of this pen for any reason once it has been used with ink. Please thoroughly inspect and dry test the pen before use.
