The Pilot Parallel fountain pen is a major breakthrough in calligraphy pen design. The unique parallel plate structure achieves a more beautiful and sharper handwriting than existing calligraphy pens. This product comes with a Parallel pen with a 1.5mm stub italic nib, one black and one red ink cartridge, a converter to flush the pen, and a nib cleaner.

Using two Pilot Parallel Pens, each with different Pilot Parallel Mixable color cartridges, you produce beautifully gradated lettering by touching the nibs together before writing. To use with bottled fountain pen ink, the Pilot Con-40 converter works best (sold separately).

Very italic

I enjoy writing and doodling with this pen. I'll be looking for a converter, even though there is nothing wrong with the supplied 2 cartridges... The red one is a very nice candy apple. The ratio of the up down stroke to the side stroke is about 5:1, which makes a broad up down line.

Great accident

I bought some cool ink colors from Pilot. Some time later (after putting on my glasses) I discovered I'd bought ink for Pilot's parallel pen. I panicked at the thought of what a parallel pen would cost. $10.00! Bought it. Used it. So easy to use. Great ink flow. This pen writes beautiful calligraphy. I think I need another one.

Just as fun as I had hoped it would be!

This is such a great pen. Very easy to use, fun to play with, and it is so affordable! The size of the stub makes it ideal for writing at a big but not too big size. Perfect for a birthday card message or calligraphy journal, but too big for typical everyday handwriting - although, you CAN write with the edge of the pen to get crisp fine lines, which is neat. Writing with the edge is super for adding fine-line calligraphy details, but I find it too scratchy to write with the edge for extended periods. Use one of your finer nibs for that, and use this one for the fun bold lines! The body of the pen definitely feels like a less expensive pen, because it is - and that's one of the things I love about it. I don't feel the need to baby this pen on a fluffy pillow - I can happily toss it in my bag without a care. And the nib is top notch, no quality complaints. I do recommend getting a converter so you can play with a broader range of inks (and be less wasteful without all those plastic cartridges).

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I fill this pen from an ink cartridge? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

A cartridge is small, disposable, sealed plastic reservoir that holds fountain pen ink. These come pre-filled with ink, and typically you just push to insert them into place and you'll be ready to write!

This pen uses proprietary Pilot ink cartridges, which are available in a wide range of colors.

You can learn more about how to actually install an ink cartridge on our blog, or in this video tutorial:

How do I use a converter? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

A converter goes in the place of where the ink cartridge would normally go. From there, you can fill your fountain pen from bottled ink.

A converter is a detachable and refillable ink reservoir that allows you to use bottled ink in a cartridge-accepting pen. Typically you will install the converter into the grip section, dip the nib/feed into the ink, and twist or pull the converter knob to draw ink into the converter.

We have a great video showing how to use a converter here:

How do I clean this fountain pen? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

It mostly comes down to flushing out the pen with water, and sometimes a little bit of pen flush if the ink is really stuck.

We put together a blog post with step-by-step instructions, or you can watch the video here:

We recommend a good cleaning every 2 weeks, and any time you change ink colors. Water will usually do the trick, but we recommend you use our Goulet Pen Flush if the ink has been left in the pen for a while and could have dried up, or when you’re switching ink colors.
