This LAMY 2000, LAMY's flagship fountain pen, is made of matte black polycarbonate with brushed stainless steel accents. It features a hooded platinum-plated 14k gold nib and uses a piston-filling mechanism to fill from bottled ink.

Note: To ensure quality performance, LAMY tests their pens as a final step in manufacturing. If you happen to see any residual blue ink, rest assured that this is normal.

Only pen you need

I got the LAMY 2000 with a fine nib three or four years ago. I've used it every day since, with a variety of inks, for work, grad school, and daily journaling. I write a lot and it's a perfect pen worthy of its reputation. It's a workhorse, it's smooth, and it's comfortable. Besides its utility, it's also elegant and good-looking yet understated (compared to some fountain pens that look quite gaudy and would honestly make me feel weird to use in a work meeting or other similar setting) and even after all this time I never get tired of the satisfaction of the "click" when the cap is put on. Never understood the talk about the "sweet spot"; some people have too much time on their hands and make up things to complain about. It's the only pen I've used since I bought it and I couldn't be happier.

Love the sleek design as well as the smooth ink flow of this pen.

I should have got one sooner

I put off purchasing this pen because of all the bad reviews about a sweet spot. My pen has no discernable sweet spot and writes fantastic. While I enjoy the look of a traditional nib it is the only thing I can say about this pen that isn't exactly what I am looking for. Well balanced with a snap cap that works well posted or not, quick notes I can pull the cap off and hold it in my other hand but for longer writing sessions I will post it. Initial feel is the pen is super durable, which is great since it is my do it all pen. I like smooth nibs and enjoy piston fillers because with a fine nib I can tend to get a week of normal use at work for notes unless I have a longer than normal journaling session that week. The ink window is useful but inconspicuous.

When it really comes down to it the pen has the exact feature set I was looking for in a pen and it only took so long for me to purchase one because of other opinions on the internet. If you are on the fence and like the rest of what it has to offer, I recommend you give this pen a try.

Great Pen

Absolutely love how it writes and how it fits in the hand. I got a Fine nib, which writes pretty close to my Medium 823 nib. Very smooth writer as well as a wet writer. The feel of the material is nice, and being that I have oily hands I have had no problems with it slipping or moving at all. Been listening to Brian and Drew talk about the 2000 a lot, very glad I picked one up.

This is a wonderful pen.

I am very happy with my Lamy 2000. I chose the extra fine nib, and it works perfectly for me. Some have found the extra fine to have a finicky sweet spot and some have found it to be overly wet, but I have experienced neither problem. I love the quality of the 2000, how it feels in my hand, how it looks, and how it writes. I couldn't be happier with this purchase.

FAQs about Fountain Pens

How do I fill a fountain pen with ink? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

It depends on the pen's filling mechanism, which you can find in the Technical Specs section above.

Here's a quick definition of the most common filling mechanisms:

  • Cartridge - A small, disposable, sealed plastic reservoir that holds fountain pen ink. These come pre-filled with ink, and typically you just push to insert them into place and you'll be ready to write! Check out our quick guide here.
  • Converter - A detachable and refillable ink reservoir that allows you to use bottled ink in a cartridge-accepting pen. Typically you will install the converter into the grip section, dip the nib/feed into the ink, and twist or pull the converter knob to draw ink into the converter. Here's a video for how to fill a cartridge/converter pen using a LAMY pen as an example.
  • Eyedropper - A pen that utilizes the entire barrel as a reservoir for ink. Ink is directly filled into the barrel, allowing for a high ink capacity. Here's a video on how to do it!
  • Piston - A type of filling system that uses a retracting plunger inside a sealed tube to draw ink into a pen. They are typically either twist or push-operated. These pens cannot accept cartridges or a converter, and only fill from bottled ink.
  • Vacuum - A push-style piston that uses pressure to fill the large pen body with ink. They seal the ink chamber when closed, making it ideal for flying without risk of leaking. Check out our video on how to use a vac filler here.

How do I clean a fountain pen? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

It depends on the filling mechanism, but it mostly comes down to flushing it out with water, and sometimes a little bit of Pen Flush if the ink is really stuck.

It's a bit easier to show than to tell, so we've put together a few quick videos showing you the process:

How often do I need to clean my fountain pen? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

We recommend a good cleaning every 2 weeks, and any time you change ink colors.

Water will usually do the trick, but we recommend you use our Goulet Pen Flush if the ink has been left in the pen for a while and could have dried up, or when you’re switching ink colors.

My pen won’t write! What do I do? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

First things first... make sure you have ink in the pen! Be sure that the ink cartridge or converter is seated properly in the pen, and that you aren't out of ink.

We always recommend you give your pen a good cleaning first, using our Goulet Pen Flush, or a drop of dish soap in some water. New pens often have some machining oil residue left in the feed, so a good cleaning often does the trick first.

If that still doesn't work, try priming the feed. This consists of either dipping your pen nib and feed in ink, or forcing ink from the converter down into the feed.

If it’s still not working after that, please reach out to us so we can help!
