Gift for my son - his first fountain pen

He really likes it. As a lefty I wasn't positive he'd like it. However, he is using it for work and likes the medium nib.

My new favorite pen!

I can't believe I waited so long to try this pen! For the past 10 years, the Pilot Custom 74 has been my daily writer, and no other pen has been able to dethrone it as my all time favorite. But the moment I started writing with the Vanishing Point, I had a new #1 pen. The writing experience is fantastic with the Medium nib. I also tried a Fine nib and found that to be a wonderful writer as well. I ended up gifting the Fine to a friend, so... now I have an excuse to get a fine in a different color. The click mechanism for deploying the nib is fantastic. It is really satisfying to use, and it also makes using a fountain pen in a faster paced environment, such as taking notes at work (or school) much easier than with a cap that has to be unscrewed. I've had no issues at all with hard starts or the nib drying out or anything like that. I was a bit worried about the position of the clip, as it seemed like it could potentially get in the way of my somewhat weird pen grip, but I've had no issues at all with the clip.Overall, I couldn't be more pleased with this pen, and I can't wait to add a couple more to my collection in different colors in years to come!

Beautiful Pen

As a dabbling pen collector, the Pilot Vanishing Point has been the pen I've been most fascinated with since I learned that there were things outside the world of G2's. A click pen that happens to be a fountain pen just seemed like the coolest possible combination of form and function to show my friends and family that fountain pens aren't stuck in the past. I was a bit worried from reading some of the other reviews that a fine nib might be too scratchy, but my previous experience with Pilot fine nibs had proven to me that they were the size best suited to my writing style. I'm happy to report that the VP's fine nib is buttery smooth (at least in my limited experience with the pen). The action is very satisfying, and works well to keep the nib from drying out. I have learned that I will need to modify my filling method to ensure I have enough ink to reach the filling port, but that will not change my life radically so I don't count it a negative. Overall, the build quality and aesthetics of the pen are top notch. The saying goes that you shouldn't meet your heroes because they might disappoint you, but I can confidently say that the VP has not only met my high expectations but exceeded them. A wonderful tool that makes writing a joy.

Great everyday carry pen

I've had the black/rhodium for years, but with a new job I have to be mindful of what color ink I use. So I just had to buy the Blue/Rhodium pen so I'd know which color was loaded before absent-mindedly signing any forms. It didn't take much rationalizing for me to justify buying another one of these pens. I'll probably get one in red eventually. Despite the click open/close nature of the pen, it's very easy to take care of and keep clean. I use it mostly for job-related note taking, so I use the converter and have yet to run out of ink accidentally. I like this pen best with the EF nib. Sometimes you have to order the EF separately depending on the specific model you buy, but it's totally worth it.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I fill this pen from an ink cartridge? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

A cartridge is small, disposable, sealed plastic reservoir that holds fountain pen ink. These come pre-filled with ink, and typically you just push to insert them into place and you'll be ready to write!

This pen uses proprietary Pilot ink cartridges, which are available in a wide range of colors.

You can learn more about how to actually install an ink cartridge on our blog, or in this video tutorial:

How do I use a converter? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

A converter goes in the place of where the ink cartridge would normally go. From there, you can fill your fountain pen from bottled ink.

A converter is a detachable and refillable ink reservoir that allows you to use bottled ink in a cartridge-accepting pen. Typically you will install the converter into the grip section, dip the nib/feed into the ink, and twist or pull the converter knob to draw ink into the converter.

We have a great video showing how to use a converter here:

How do I clean this fountain pen? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

It mostly comes down to flushing out the pen with water, and sometimes a little bit of pen flush if the ink is really stuck.

We put together a blog post with step-by-step instructions, or you can watch the video here:

We recommend a good cleaning every 2 weeks, and any time you change ink colors. Water will usually do the trick, but we recommend you use our Goulet Pen Flush if the ink has been left in the pen for a while and could have dried up, or when you’re switching ink colors.
