The TWSBI Vac Mini is a slightly shorter version of the Vac700R. This clear demonstrator fountain pen fills via a vacuum filler mechanism, has translucent grey accents on the grip and piston knob, and has a stainless steel nib.

TWSBI's belief is that it is important to allow the user to disassemble and reassemble the pen and completely experience the traditional aspects of owning and using a fountain pen. These pens also come packaged with a wrench and silicone grease. Neither of these accessories are intended to be used immediately, as they are for long-term care and maintenance. Additionally, please use extra care if you choose to disassemble the nib and feed, as the feed is very fragile.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I fill a fountain pen with ink? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

It depends on the pen's filling mechanism, which you can find in the Technical Specs section above.

Here's a quick definition of the most common filling mechanisms:

  • Cartridge - A small, disposable, sealed plastic reservoir that holds fountain pen ink. These come pre-filled with ink, and typically you just push to insert them into place and you'll be ready to write! Check out our quick guide here.
  • Converter - A detachable and refillable ink reservoir that allows you to use bottled ink in a cartridge-accepting pen. Typically you will install the converter into the grip section, dip the nib/feed into the ink, and twist or pull the converter knob to draw ink into the converter. Here's a video for how to fill a cartridge/converter pen using a LAMY pen as an example.
  • Eyedropper - A pen that utilizes the entire barrel as a reservoir for ink. Ink is directly filled into the barrel, allowing for a high ink capacity. Here's a video on how to do it!
  • Piston - A type of filling system that uses a retracting plunger inside a sealed tube to draw ink into a pen. They are typically either twist or push-operated. These pens cannot accept cartridges or a converter, and only fill from bottled ink.
  • Vacuum - A push-style piston that uses pressure to fill the large pen body with ink. They seal the ink chamber when closed, making it ideal for flying without risk of leaking. Check out our video on how to use a vac filler here.

Check out more info on these filling mechanisms including a video on how to fill each one on our blog.

How do I clean this fountain pen? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

It mostly comes down to flushing out the pen with water, and sometimes a little bit of pen flush if the ink is really stuck.

We put together a blog post with step-by-step instructions, or you can watch the video here:

We recommend a good cleaning every 2 weeks, and any time you change ink colors. Water will usually do the trick, but we recommend you use our Goulet Pen Flush if the ink has been left in the pen for a while and could have dried up, or when you’re switching ink colors.

For even more information about fountain pen cleaning, check out our Fountain Pen 101 video blog post.

Wonderful work pen

I own a full size Vac 700,and it is a tremendous every day workhorse writing tool, but I wanted something a bit more pocket friendly for Travel, and packing along in my work bag. This fits the bill perfectly. Almost half the size of the full 700 capped, and nearly the same length posted. I ordered this with an EF instead of the F on my full, and there is a noticeable difference in the line width. My full is a bit sloppy for crosswords but this mini is nice and crisp. It will be replacing my Pilot Metro in that duty as well.

Love my Vac Mini

I own several Twsbi pens but my hands-down favorite it my Vac Mini. It has the best flow, feel, and size. I use it everyday and is a constant companion along with my bullet journal. Thank you Goulet Pen Co for introducing me to the Twsbi line. I am a fan of both.

The best pocket pen ever

I'm actually on my second Vac Mini. I bought one from Goulet as soon as they came out; I loved the Vac-700 (now 700R), and I thought this would be a great portable version of my home-study 700. It absolutely has been the best everyday carry (EDC) I've ever had, and my collection ain't small at this point. Being able to completely seal the large ink chamber is great, and starting the pen has generally been quite easy. I've used it so much in so many places I accidentally dropped my first one, stepped on it, and cracked it. :( I've tried to be careful with my second one, which still comes with me every day in a leather pen sleeve, ready for quick notes, signatures, what have you. One of my all-time faves!

TWSBI Vac Mini

Like my other TWSBI pens this one is also a fine one. I have only used it a short while but I really like it. I think, so far, it's a winner.

Twsbi vac mini and the vac bottle.

This pen is a delight to use with the vac bottle. I now own 4 of the Vac Mini pens and will buy one more.
