Apart from numerous details, the Master notebook stands out due to its size. In its A4 oversize format, it is large enough to accommodate loose sheets or photocopies between its pages or in its cover pocket without risk of damage. This black Master notebook is a classic with 233 numbered pages (117 sheets) and strong non-bleed ruled 100g paper. Lines are spaced 8mm apart. Features include an expandable pocket, a blank table of contents, two ribbon page markers, elastic band fastener, stickers for labeling/archiving, and it opens flat.

Overall a nice piece of work.

This is the second one I've ordered from Goulet. This size is hard to find anywhere. I love the oversized paper, the extra heavy end papers, the wider lines (which allow me to see what I write & edit as needed), not to mention playing with calligraphy! Paper weight of 100 gsm to me is a tiny bit on the thin side but I can now use my fountain pens if they are extra fine to fine point nib, anything heavier does bleed & shadow. I get some bleed-through with dotting my I's and punctuation. Noticed no feathering nor much shadowing through the paper either. I wish someone would create a notebook with at least 110 or heavier gsm, but these are now non-existent. Not used to having page numbers at the bottom & having headers on every page. The cover isn't what I consider a hard cover, a small amount of flex does not make it a hardcover. It's pity they only make this size in black. I think it would look stunning in the some of the newest colors Leuchtturm has come out with, i.e. salmon, dark green, ink, to name a few. And finally, the only real drawback I find irksome is the weird number of sheets/pages every company seems to be doing. Only 235 pages? Really? Why stop there? Why not go to a nice round number like 250, 300, or even 400 pages? {Although at 400 pages it would make the thing a full-fledged weapon: it'd weigh a ton!} I ended up creating extra sheets to round it up to where I like it, in this case, 250 pages. The notebook comes well-kitted out with the exterior elastic band, 2 ribbon markers, a 2-page table of contents (converted to listing notable dates on), full size pocket at the back (I always have to add my own pockets to my notebooks), and the labels. I think I've forgotten something, but it's been a long day. All that being said, I like this notebook, it's growing on me. I think I will be buying more.

100gsm for the Win!

I picked this up, in part, to better my handwriting when using wet, broad, or stub nibs. I use the 120gsm A5 notebooks with smaller ruling for notes and journaling which is great, but the 80gsm ones have often had more show/through or bleed than I'd like (I totally get that it's normal, but I find it a bit distracting). The 100gsm paper in this A4+ as well as the larger ruling has really held up well to ink flooded on w/ the Opus 88 1.5 stub with little to no show-through and the additional line width means I sometimes have a fighting chance of making sure 'e' and 'c' don't look exactly the same. I haven't gotten into more ink-resistant papers yet, but the Leuchttrums have served me well and do allow for a decent amount of shading even with finer nibs.

Amazing Notebook

As someone who writes big and doodles in the margins, this notebook is absolutely perfect. I'm able to get so much on every page and keep my thoughts organized. Keeping the flow of what I'm writing has never been easier.

I love these

I've used several of these for my journal and I love them. They are great size, the paper quality it really good, and the different inks I use neither feather or bleed through.

Greatest notebook so far for me.

So this notebook so far in my notebook using experience is the absolute best presented and laid out notebook I have used. It has the perfect aesthetic and epic feel when it is opened that there is a great story written inside across its pages, like as if it will contain some epic tale of history similar to the feel of when Gandalf is reading the account of the ring on old parchment in The Fellowship of the Ring. That kind of feel. I love a big journal, with big pages, but small writing, filling the page. And this notebook does that so well because it is so big and so awesome that way. It opens flat which is an essential to awesomeness in a notebook and it makes it easy to use. The line spacing is good and roomy to accommodate writing scripts that take up more than one line. It has all the bells and whistles that being, two ribbons for page marking, a table of contents, page numbers, dates, a title page, and a paper holder at the back, and the paper is a soft creme color leaning slightly toward ivory which to me is such a nice touch to the aesthetic as looking at the pages is not harsh or bright on the eyes but soft and easy which I like. The paper is a middle ground between smooth and textured so if you value the hyper smooth of Clairefontaine you will not find it here but it is not as rough as say Southworth 100% Cotton paper is. The covers are a middle ground between hardback and soft so it will hold its shape but bend under pressure. Now for some serious honesty. I have not written in it yet. But I have used another smaller Leuchtturm 1917 notebook with a 1.2mm Italic nib with Noodlers Black and that one works just fine to me, with nice crisp lines and no spreading or feathering. So for both of us I am hoping it works as well in this or that will be sad. Ha ha. But anyway. The picture shows how the size of it is compared to a Pilot Metropolitan and an Aurora Ipsilon to give you an idea. Overall for the aesthetic I absolutely recommend above any other notebook I have yet used. It's just got such a good feel of an epic journal with tales of adventure in it, I can't say that enough. It really helps at least to me create that feel of why handwriting and analogue memory keeping is so much nicer than writing on a computer. So give it a shot and I hope you like it.
