This turquoise blue resin Magnum fountain pen is one of Diplomat’s most affordable offerings. The special no-slip lacquer gives the body a soft touch, and it has a black ergonomic grip section. It comes equipped with a smooth writing JoWo stainless steel nib, chrome trim, and fills via standard international cartridge/converter (both are included).

Note: The Diplomat Magnum is gradually transitioning from matte to polished nibs. What you receive may be different than what is pictured here.

Bad grip

I can not write with this pen for more than a few minutes before my hand hurts. The part underneath the nib is flat and the edges dig into my finger. On the plus side when I do write with it is lovely. The nib is nice and bouncy.

Good Writer

I got this pen in the fine nib after hearing all about the bouncy nib. The nib is really nice but not sure I get a lot of bounce. The nib is very smooth and gives an excellent ink flow. The pen is really slim and feels more plasticly than I had hoped for the price. This pen feels like a durable "Preppy".

Great writing pen in a subtle package

The nib on the Magnum is great. It is noticeably bouncier than other steel nibs I have. I have tried it in medium and fine and enjoy both. This pen is compact and lightweight. The nib is smaller. It does not draw a lot of attention. I used it as my EDC pen teaching highschool loaded with Liberty's Elysium matching school colors. Occasionally, students ask about the nib. I let them try it a moment. If they are WOWed, I have a Varsity to give them.Unfortunately, because the pen is so lightweight, it fell out of my pocket and I lost it. I want to order another like it.

Excellent Fountain Pen

Being my first fountain pen and being on the beginner end, I can say I truly love using it. I also ordered a second one. Using this Diplomat made me a user for life.

Nice lightweight pen

I really like this pen. I thought it was kinda funny lookin so I put off buying it for a while. I inked it up with Pilot Iroshizuki Ama-iro (I'm a match the ink to the color of the pen kinda gal) and hooo weeee does it write smooth. I don't know if its a nice wet ink or what but I love it. When I watch it write the fine tip tines ever so slightly spread a little so maybe that's it. Whatever, I'm diggin it. Other reviews say it's too light and plasticky but I like the weight and sure its a cheap plastic but it's not too expensive and I think it's worth it

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I use this pen with ink cartridges? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

A cartridge is small, disposable, sealed plastic reservoir that holds fountain pen ink. These come pre-filled with ink, and typically you just push to insert them into place and you'll be ready to write!

This pen uses standard international ink cartridges, a common size which is available in many colors from various brands.

You can learn more about how to actually install an ink cartridge on our blog, or in this video tutorial:

How do I use a converter? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

A converter goes in the place of where the ink cartridge would normally go. From there, you can fill your fountain pen from bottled ink.

A converter is a detachable and refillable ink reservoir that allows you to use bottled ink in a cartridge-accepting pen. Typically you will install the converter into the grip section, dip the nib/feed into the ink, and twist or pull the converter knob to draw ink into the converter.

We have a great video showing how to use a converter here:

How do I clean this fountain pen? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

It mostly comes down to flushing out the pen with water, and sometimes a little bit of pen flush if the ink is really stuck.

We put together a blog post with step-by-step instructions, or you can watch the video here:

We recommend a good cleaning every 2 weeks, and any time you change ink colors. Water will usually do the trick, but we recommend you use our Goulet Pen Flush if the ink has been left in the pen for a while and could have dried up, or when you’re switching ink colors.
