The Platinum Plaisir fountain pen features a cap which prevents ink from drying, enabling smooth writing even after no use for a whole year. The outside body is made of aluminum and has a superior shiny finish due to its special anodized coating. This fountain pen has a pastel lavender purple barrel and cap, silver trim, a stainless steel nib, and accepts proprietary Platinum cartridges (one is included) or a Platinum converter (sold separately).

A "prettier Preppy" at a pretty good price.

I bought this pen because I love how my Platinum Preppy writes, but I wanted something with a little nicer body. The color got me, in the end - I'm a sucker for all things violet and all things pastel. Function/feel: It was kind of a major struggle to get this one to start writing, but it DID eventually start up. I'm not sure how it happened, but I managed to fill it through the feed (ie I didn't just fill the cartridge and plug it in) but it still wouldn't write for a good 5-10 minutes. I guess it didn't fill through the same route that the ink would flow through? Or maybe it just randomly got temporarily clogged right away? It's still a mystery. Fortunately, it's writing fine now. And once I did get it started, it was immediately that beautiful light, smooth flow that I know and love from the Preppy. Aesthetics: As stated, I got this as an attempt to find a 'nicer-looking Preppy.' I succeeded. This one is as beautiful as the Preppy is not (to me). The design is great and the pen's overall aesthetics are very balanced. It's not too cutesy, but it's definitely a fun color. It's not too big, not too small. Not heavy but also not featherweight. I do feel like I could write all day with this and not get muscle fatigue or anything. Problems/potential negatives: Other than not writing out of the box and requiring some patience and fussing? The pull-off cap (not screw-off) is not going to be for everyone but I personally like a 'quick draw' pen, so that's actually a plus for me. Also, it's a bit of a bummer that it doesn't come with a cartridge converter, but I shouldn't complain, since very few under-$20 pens do. Overall: Pretty darn good value. It's exactly the price I would want to pay for a very pretty version of the Preppy. My only real complaint was that I had to spend $11 extra (so more than half this pen's cost) to get a converter, but that's an issue for another day. Just bear in mind that unless you have a ton of Platinum cartridges or converters around, this is essentially a $28.60 pen, not really a $17.60 one. But, with that taken into account, I still really like this pen.

Light weight wet writer

This pen is very lightweight. It writes smooth, a bit on the wet side. Good starter pen, I prefer something that feels a little more substantial in the hand.

writes when it touches the paper

Good, smoother than usual for a fine point, that starts writing after days of not being used. Very classy looking.

Favorite everyday pen

This is my go-to pen for business meetings at work. The nib is very smooth and lets me scribble notes very quickly without catching on the cheap notebook and printer paper we use in our office. The pen has some heft to it in my hands without being heavy, and as a woman with medium-sized hands, I find it to be the perfect size for me. I also really like the pale violet color! It's distinctive and still professional (at least in this office!), and I use Diamine Damson ink with it (a very dark grey-toned purple). Excellent quality for the price!

Beautiful Pen

I bought this as a gift for my daughter's 25th birthday. She had recently received a promotion to manager of her department so I thought a good quality fountain pen would be the perfect gift. She loves it although I did have to show her how to attach the ink cartridge and explain how it works, LOL. So glad I found your fountain pen store online, great customer service and fast shipping.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I fill this fountain pen from an ink cartridge? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

A cartridge is small, disposable, sealed plastic reservoir that holds fountain pen ink. These come pre-filled with ink, and typically you just push to insert them into place and you'll be ready to write!

This pen uses proprietary Platinum ink cartridges, which are available in a few colors.

You can learn more about how to actually install an ink cartridge on our blog, or in this video tutorial:

How do I use a converter? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

A converter goes in the place of where the ink cartridge would normally go. From there, you can fill your fountain pen from bottled ink.

A converter is a detachable and refillable ink reservoir that allows you to use bottled ink in a cartridge-accepting pen. Typically you will install the converter into the grip section, dip the nib/feed into the ink, and twist or pull the converter knob to draw ink into the converter.

We have a great video showing how to use a converter here:

How do I clean this fountain pen? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

It mostly comes down to flushing out the pen with water, and sometimes a little bit of pen flush if the ink is really stuck.

We put together a blog post with step-by-step instructions, or you can watch the video here:

We recommend a good cleaning every 2 weeks, and any time you change ink colors. Water will usually do the trick, but we recommend you use our Goulet Pen Flush if the ink has been left in the pen for a while and could have dried up, or when you’re switching ink colors.
