This dark blue resin Magnum fountain pen is one of Diplomat’s most affordable offerings. The special no-slip lacquer gives the body a soft touch, and it has a black ergonomic grip section. It comes equipped with a smooth writing JoWo stainless steel nib, chrome trim, and fills via standard international cartridge/converter (both are included).

Note: The Diplomat Magnum is gradually transitioning from matte to polished nibs. What you receive may be different than what is pictured here.

Magnum Indigo w/ EF - great nib/feed, thin body

By the time I bought this I already owned 2 LAMY Safaris, a Pilot Explorer, and a TWSBI Eco. I like each of these for their own reasons, but I keep coming back to this one. I have recently discovered that my everyday writing is small to upper-small, and this EF nib and feed are great.

The nib: perfect width for me, surprising spring yielding line variation (though pushing too hard brought on a railroad; I feel like I don't want to push too hard on this, anyway), and gives me a nice tactile connection with my paper without feeling scratchy.

Feed: keeps up very well, even when I quick-doodle.

Body: this is where I have my only issue - it's too thin for me, and I have medium sized hands.

This is nice to write with (great nib and feed), but the thin body of the pen leaves me wanting. In fact, wanting to buy larger bodied Diplomats! Also, this feels like a great candidate for a sketching pen (I hope to field test it in that capacity soon).

Great fountain pen, I use my fountain pens for art. This pen is easy and comfortable to use. The nib is strong and the ink flows clearly. Thank you, Goulet Pens for a quick turnaround.

Diplomat Magnum Fountain Pen

The body of the pen is thin and light weight. The extra fine nib writes very well. Overall, I find the pen is a little too thin, but it writes well.

Good pen, writes well.

Easy to fill, smooth writing, just a little lite for my hand, feels like it needs some weight to it. But that's a small complaint for the price and use of the pen.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I use this pen with ink cartridges? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

A cartridge is small, disposable, sealed plastic reservoir that holds fountain pen ink. These come pre-filled with ink, and typically you just push to insert them into place and you'll be ready to write!

This pen uses standard international ink cartridges, a common size which is available in many colors from various brands.

You can learn more about how to actually install an ink cartridge on our blog, or in this video tutorial:

How do I use a converter? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

A converter goes in the place of where the ink cartridge would normally go. From there, you can fill your fountain pen from bottled ink.

A converter is a detachable and refillable ink reservoir that allows you to use bottled ink in a cartridge-accepting pen. Typically you will install the converter into the grip section, dip the nib/feed into the ink, and twist or pull the converter knob to draw ink into the converter.

We have a great video showing how to use a converter here:

How do I clean this fountain pen? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

It mostly comes down to flushing out the pen with water, and sometimes a little bit of pen flush if the ink is really stuck.

We put together a blog post with step-by-step instructions, or you can watch the video here:

We recommend a good cleaning every 2 weeks, and any time you change ink colors. Water will usually do the trick, but we recommend you use our Goulet Pen Flush if the ink has been left in the pen for a while and could have dried up, or when you’re switching ink colors.

For even more information about fountain pen cleaning, check out our Fountain Pen 101 video blog post.
