Smooth

I already own a Pilot vanishing point fine that works wonderfully, but I find it sometimes has a slow start. This fine point is even smoother, has no start-up problems, and works well with my left-handedness.

I've heard that Platinum's nibs are 'scratchy'.

And based on my recent purchase. they are, at least at this price point. A little tuning made a big difference. The 3776 feels good in the hand, is well made -and adjusted- is a pleasant writer. I've written with a Platinum Preppie for years however and find the nibs smooth and wet. Strange.

A beautiful pen, in every way.

Everything from the fit and feel of this pen, to the capping, to the writing with fantastic nib just overflows with quality. The pen writes precisely, consistently, and perfectly, with good flow and a really positive feel from the nib. The blue color of the pen is deceptively dark, but in bright light, it is exactly what I expected. I could not be happier with this purchase.

Lightweight and Pretty

This is my first gold nib pen after a few years of using steel nibs. I did my research very thoroughly, as I wanted a gold nib that looked nice but also had a fine nib for thin writing. I'm so in love! It writes beautifully, with a slight feedback that makes me 'feel' what I'm writing. Not scratchy, but close. Sheening ink still flows, but I do notice it has a tendency to clog slightly, so just something to keep in mind. It is more lightweight than what I had thought, but that has actually come to make the writing experience much better. My hand doesn't tire as easily as with heavier pens, and it's easy to slip it in my pocket, purse, or pen bag. I also like that the extra fine nib doesn't write wet, as it lets me use different inks on bad paper without it bleeding through too much. Overall, a good pen with a reasonable price for what it is.

Platinum pen

Super smooth - writes like a dream. Beautiful pen as well. Definitely a nice addition to my collection.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I fill this fountain pen from an ink cartridge? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

A cartridge is small, disposable, sealed plastic reservoir that holds fountain pen ink. These come pre-filled with ink, and typically you just push to insert them into place and you'll be ready to write!

This pen uses proprietary Platinum ink cartridges, which are available in a few colors.

You can learn more about how to actually install an ink cartridge on our blog, or in this video tutorial:

How do I use a converter? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

A converter goes in the place of where the ink cartridge would normally go. From there, you can fill your fountain pen from bottled ink.

A converter is a detachable and refillable ink reservoir that allows you to use bottled ink in a cartridge-accepting pen. Typically you will install the converter into the grip section, dip the nib/feed into the ink, and twist or pull the converter knob to draw ink into the converter.

We have a great video showing how to use a converter here:

How do I clean this fountain pen? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

It mostly comes down to flushing out the pen with water, and sometimes a little bit of pen flush if the ink is really stuck.

We put together a blog post with step-by-step instructions, or you can watch the video here:

We recommend a good cleaning every 2 weeks, and any time you change ink colors. Water will usually do the trick, but we recommend you use our Goulet Pen Flush if the ink has been left in the pen for a while and could have dried up, or when you’re switching ink colors.

For even more information about fountain pen cleaning, check out our Fountain Pen 101 video blog post.
