Ink is great! Free pen writes well!

Previous reviews said pens from Noodler’s smelled like baby vomit & no amount of cleaning would remove the smell. Well as a 25 year veteran of working with sick babies, I can assure you, baby vomit is much less pleasant than the mild odor emitted by the Charlie pen I received with my Noodler’s X-Feather Black Ink. Seriously, if anyone finds the very mild odor that offensive & nauseating, then, either they are of a gentle constitution or they have their face pushed way too close to their pen, because unless I actually sniffed the pen before I prepared to fill it initially, I really couldn’t smell it. Once I rinsed it out, dried it off & filled it, it was basically odorless. But like I said, I didn’t have my face smashed into it either.

Good Ink and a Great Free Pen

The X-Feather Ink handles many different cheaper types of paper like a champ. My biggest surprise is how great the Charlie pen is at handling all the different papers and it is very lightweight so you can write all day.

X- Feather's Great for Cheaper Paper

I find myself needing to write on paper that is not fountain pen friendly quite often, and this ink, paired with a fine or an extra fine nib, works a treat. It's perhaps not the darkest black you can get, but it's up there when coming out of a medium nib on Rhodia's paper. My specimen of the bonus Charlie pen actually has a great nib on it, so I loaded it up with some Fox Red and now I have another color at hand to underline, circle, or otherwise call out, that won't run out of ink for a long time. Very happy with this ink.--Zac

Love this ink and pen!

I had no idea what to expect in a free pen, so I wasn't expecting much. I already knew I was crazy about the ink though, so I definitely wanted the big bottle. When it got here, I opened it up...And was greeted by a horrible smell. Very vomit-y. It was coming from the pen. I quickly googled and discovered this is a fun feature for a lot of Noodler's pens lol. It's.. it's pretty bad. And so I was hesitant at first to even use it at all, but I went ahead and inked it up...And fell in love. I must have gotten lucky because this pen wrote flawlessly right out of the box. I have very small hands and am a leftie, I like fine lines, and this thing works like a dream. I'm so, SO happy with it. The ink is fantastic, too! It's way blacker than the ink I've been using up (Pelikan 4001), and since I pretty much only write in cheap notebooks, it's perfect. The ink is great, the pen is amazing, no regrets!

X-Feather stands for no feathering! Love it!

I wish Goulet's copywriters actually wrote what the qualities of noodler's inks are in the product descriptions. I think it would improve sales. A great, standard black ink.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which pens can accept this ink? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

Any of these fountain pens will work with bottled ink. Typically, as long as the pen can be filled with a converter, has a built-in filling mechanism like a piston, or can be eyedropper-filled, it can accept bottled ink. You can also refill an empty ink cartridge from bottled ink using an ink syringe.
