Nice, simple dark brown

This brown was nice, though it turned out a little too dark to see any shading. If you're looking for a simple dark brown.

My New Favorite

I received this as part of a Goulet staff-picked sampler. I had chosen the sampler based on a couple of other colors I wanted, but the Brown Sugar has turned out to be my favorite of the lot. It writes like a dream, and with my Pilot medium nib dries instantly.

An underrated gem.

This is an absolutely gorgeous ink that has wicked shading and a shine on Tomoe River. You rarely hear about these Monteverde inks reviewed but don't let that put you off; it's a high class ink and you get 90ml!

outstanding ink color

This is an outstanding ink in the perfect shade of brown that writes like a dream! The next generation of Monteverde ink is much improved over the 1st edition that I tried before.

Blood Stain Brown - keep it dry

The bottle label calls this ink Brown Sugar in English, but in French and Spanish the name is Red Chianti, which is more accurate. This ink makes a rich dark brown line, with a red base. I would call it Blood Stain. It's handsome and vivid. The ink flows smoothly from my Plumix, but despite how nicely the ink writes and looks, I would not recommend it generally because it is so unsafe around water. Its writing dissolves into a little red puddle at the touch of water, leaving no trace of the original line.By the way, even though a little water makes the ink let go of paper, it's less effective in getting the ink out of a table cloth. I eventually got most of the stain out with laundry spot treatment and detergent.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I fill my fountain pen from an ink sample vial? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

The technique depends on the fountain pen's filling mechanism.

Check out our blog post on How to Fill a Fountain Pen from an Ink Sample Vial, or watch the video here:

How much writing can I really do with 2ml? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

We find that usually you can get 2 good fills for a typical converter with our ink samples, or one good fill with a large capacity piston-filling pen.

How much writing you can do depends on you more than anything else. It mostly depends on how big or small you write, and the nib size you’re using. We recommend experimenting with different nib sizes to find what works best for you.
