This yellow fountain pen ink features added copper pearlescent shimmer. Shimmering inks work best with broader nibs on high quality paper to really see the shine. De Atramentis fountain pen inks are exclusively handmade in Germany by Dr. Franz-Josef Jansen, and come in a 45ml glass bottle.

Due to the amount of particulate in this ink used to achieve the sparking look, you may experience restricted ink flow in some of your pens. We recommend shaking the ink thoroughly before filling and gently rolling the pen in your hands often to keep the shimmer effect consistent. This will also help prevent clogging. You will also want to be diligent about cleaning and maintaining your pen when using this ink.

Note: De Atramentis is in the process of changing their bottled ink lids. What is pictured might differ from what you receive. We cannot honor special requests.

Fun ink

I like this ink. The shine is amazing and is as advertised. I found it was an ink that really need a broad or stub nib and maybe don't use it in your best pen. I really like it in my Noodler's Triple tail pen.

Nice ink, but be aware...

Very nice color. Be aware that that the added copper components will easily clog up a fine nib. Keep your nibs clean and shake pen gently every once in a while to keep the glittery components evenly distributed. I often use inks like this with a glass dip pen.

Glitter doesn't behave, yellow is too light

I have used several shimmer inks in the past, and I believe this one does not perform as well. Glitter does not stay suspended well at all, and is very difficult to re-suspend once it separates. Because it concentrates in one part of the pen, it also clogs the tip quite a bit. This is on a 1.1mm stub twsbi eco. Once the glitter is re-mixed or some extra ink is extruded, the clog resolved quickly. The yellow color is too light to be read very easily without the glitter, and if it matters to you, it does not show up on a black and white scanner.

I Want To Like It

Let me start by saying, De Atremis Shimmer inks tend to be the hardest of the shimmer inks to work with. The shimmer they use tends to clump and fall out of the ink much faster than, for example, Diamine or J. Herbin, and the particle size is much larger. In my twsbi eco M nib, I can literally watch the particles clump and clog the feed, where as with Emerald of Chivour I never ever had a single clogging issue. That being said, the yellow ink itself is a little too light for my taste, and reminds me of a not-quite-neon highlighter yellow. However, this ink is really designed to be seen with the shimmer in it, and when the shimmer comes through consistently, it does darken up a little and makes it easier to read. The problem is the flow is so inconsistent due to the particles, that I never got a chance to love this ink. Come back with particle tech that improves on what you have, and this ink would be great for an artist or sketcher, even if its not a great selection for a daily writer.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which pens can accept this ink? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

Any of these fountain pens will work with bottled ink. Typically, as long as the pen can be filled with a converter, has a built-in filling mechanism like a piston, or can be eyedropper-filled, it can accept bottled ink. You can also refill an empty ink cartridge from bottled ink using an ink syringe.

Is shimmering ink safe to use in fountain pens? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

Yes! Shimmering ink (a fountain pen ink that has small particles of glitter mixed in) is a great way to add some flare to your writing. We have found that a larger nib will showcase more shimmering particles while writing, but you can use any nib size with shimmering ink. While it is safe to use in fountain pens, it may require a little extra maintenance.

Due to the amount of particulate in this ink used to achieve the sparking look, you may experience restricted ink flow in some of your pens, especially with finer nibs.

We recommend shaking the ink thoroughly before filling, and gently rolling the pen in your hands often to keep the shimmer effect consistent. This will also help prevent clogging.

You will also want to be diligent about regularly cleaning and maintaining your pen when using this ink.
