2ml fountain pen ink sample of Wearingeul I Am A Cat in a labeled plastic vial.

This grey fountain pen ink has added golden shimmer. It's inspired by the glittering eyes of a cat in a human world.

Wearingeul inks are made in South Korea.

Due to the amount of particulate in this ink used to achieve the sparking look, you may experience restricted ink flow in some of your pens. We recommend shaking the ink thoroughly before filling and gently rolling the pen in your hands often to keep the shimmer effect consistent. This will also help prevent clogging. You will also want to be diligent about cleaning and maintaining your pen when using this ink.

Beautiful but Finicky

It's a lovely warm grey, the gold shimmer is pretty and intense. It's such an interesting combination, and it works! Of course, take care with your pen. I have it in a TWSBI Diamond with a broad nib and I've had no problems with the flow as long as I've stored my pen nib-up. I had it with a medium nib in the same pen before, and it got clogged enough that I switched out the nib size. I use it for headers, my weather doodles in my planner, decorative flourishes, and goal tracking. Writing with it is fine, you just have to write with slightly larger letters. It would be a great, dramatic ink for calligraphy.

subtly surprising

My overall experience is that I'm a loyal Goulet pens fan. I bought this sample on a whim, loaded it into my brand new TWSBI 1.1 stub and have been so surprised at how well the ink behaves. The shimmer looks magical in the clear ink barrel! It flows easily, has a good amount of shading when used with this nib, and the shimmer is really only noticeable upon close inspection and comes as a whimsical surprise to the unsuspecting. To my amazement, it is essentially waterproof on copy paper! Not so much on Rhodia, but sometimes even Noodler's bulletproof black will smudge on that stuff.

Glittery

This is a nice shade of gray, writes well, and has some color variation after it dries. But I'm not a fan of the glitter feature as it tends to get on everything. I've had other glittery and shimmer inks and they did not transfer anywhere near this degree. Pretty and fun ink, just beware.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is shimmering ink safe to use in fountain pens? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

Yes! Shimmering ink (a fountain pen ink that has small particles of glitter mixed in) is a great way to add some flare to your writing. We have found that a larger nib will showcase more shimmering particles while writing, but you can use any nib size with shimmering ink. While it is safe to use in fountain pens, it may require a little extra maintenance.

Due to the amount of particulate in this ink used to achieve the sparking look, you may experience restricted ink flow in some of your pens, especially with finer nibs.

We recommend shaking the ink thoroughly before filling, and gently rolling the pen in your hands often to keep the shimmer effect consistent. This will also help prevent clogging.

You will also want to be diligent about regularly cleaning and maintaining your pen when using this ink.

How do I fill my fountain pen from an ink sample vial? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

The technique depends on the fountain pen's filling mechanism.

How much writing can I really do with 2ml? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

We find that usually you can get 2 good fills for a typical converter with our ink samples, or one good fill with a large capacity piston-filling pen.

How much writing you can do depends on you more than anything else. It mostly depends on how big or small you write, and the nib size you’re using. We recommend experimenting with different nib sizes to find what works best for you.
