Good Ink and a Great Free Pen

The X-Feather Ink handles many different cheaper types of paper like a champ. My biggest surprise is how great the Charlie pen is at handling all the different papers and it is very lightweight so you can write all day.

X- Feather's Great for Cheaper Paper

I find myself needing to write on paper that is not fountain pen friendly quite often, and this ink, paired with a fine or an extra fine nib, works a treat. It's perhaps not the darkest black you can get, but it's up there when coming out of a medium nib on Rhodia's paper. My specimen of the bonus Charlie pen actually has a great nib on it, so I loaded it up with some Fox Red and now I have another color at hand to underline, circle, or otherwise call out, that won't run out of ink for a long time. Very happy with this ink.--Zac

Love this ink and pen!

I had no idea what to expect in a free pen, so I wasn't expecting much. I already knew I was crazy about the ink though, so I definitely wanted the big bottle. When it got here, I opened it up...And was greeted by a horrible smell. Very vomit-y. It was coming from the pen. I quickly googled and discovered this is a fun feature for a lot of Noodler's pens lol. It's.. it's pretty bad. And so I was hesitant at first to even use it at all, but I went ahead and inked it up...And fell in love. I must have gotten lucky because this pen wrote flawlessly right out of the box. I have very small hands and am a leftie, I like fine lines, and this thing works like a dream. I'm so, SO happy with it. The ink is fantastic, too! It's way blacker than the ink I've been using up (Pelikan 4001), and since I pretty much only write in cheap notebooks, it's perfect. The ink is great, the pen is amazing, no regrets!

X-Feather stands for no feathering! Love it!

I wish Goulet's copywriters actually wrote what the qualities of noodler's inks are in the product descriptions. I think it would improve sales. A great, standard black ink.

My Go-to Black Ink

Permanent and water resistant. Not that anything I write is ever in any conditions where it would get water on it or otherwise be in hostile conditions, but it's nice to know what I write will be there exactly as it was for as long as I'll be around to read it. The color is a dark and SATURATED black. I love it. It's easy to think of black as being a boring color, but this ink is so black it easily upends that notion. I'd say it appears darker than what comes out of a typical laserjet printer. Makes what you write pop out without being offensive, and as a result makes what is written easy on the eyes and east to read.Only downside you get is a generally long drying time. On the cheap papers this is designed for it still dries relatively quickly, but on the occasion you do write on something paper with low absorbency you will feel it and can run into significant smudging for some time after writing. As for the included pen, the Noodler's Charlie pens are by no means Cadillacs, but they are often better than you might expect. Eyedropper filled with friction fit nib and feed, they're easy to maintain if sometimes nerve racking to fill. They generally need at least minor adjustments to the nib and feed spacing to get the ink to flow correctly, and I've even had some drip ink out like a leaking faucet before adjustment. The nibs aren't always the smoothest and are generally inconsistent, but for fine nibs they can often be better than you'd expect. One thing I can say is that the feeds are good, these free pens can often write more consistently without skipping than pens I've paid far more for. If you don't mind making the few small adjustments they need they nice workhorse pens to keep around, if only to have a few additional inks on hand ready to go. And they should last basically forever with their simple construction.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which pens can accept this ink? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

Any of these fountain pens will work with bottled ink. Typically, as long as the pen can be filled with a converter, has a built-in filling mechanism like a piston, or can be eyedropper-filled, it can accept bottled ink. You can also refill an empty ink cartridge from bottled ink using an ink syringe.
