50ml plastic bottle of Robert Oster Shake 'N' Shimmy shimmer fountain pen ink in the color Heart of Gold - a yellow ink with added gold shimmer.

Robert Oster Signature Inks are handmade in Australia. The recyclable PET bottles are manufactured in Australia's first carbon neutral plastics plant.

Note: Robert Oster is in the process of changing the labels on their bottle and the label on the bottle you receive may vary from what is pictured here.

Due to the amount of particulate in this ink used to achieve the sparking look, you may experience restricted ink flow in some of your pens. We recommend shaking the ink thoroughly before filling and gently rolling the pen in your hands often to keep the shimmer effect consistent. This will also help prevent clogging. You will also want to be diligent about cleaning and maintaining your pen when using this ink.

A message from Robert Oster:

My great interest in fountain pen inks – and by extension inks that combine many creative applications – began with the birth of my love of fountain pens in 1989.

As Robert Oster Signature Inks are quite recent to the market, think of the interim between 1989 and today, as the fertile ground into which my present love of all things ink was seeded and grown.

The contents and packaging of my Inks are all nature friendly and the colours a genuine inventory of the Australian palette.

Robert Oster Signature originates from one of the most famous wine producing regions of the world, the Coonawarra district of South Australia, an idyllic setting with great influence on the senses. There is my inspiration. It’s a joy to share it with you.

Robert Oster states "For calligraphy & ink art pens, brushes & airbrush applicators. May contain pigments”.

Liquid Gold, beautiful

Runns very well in my TWSBI Fountain Pen. Writes smooth and wet. Looks like one has written with sparkling liquid gold. Gorgeous

Gold on gold

This ink is VERY gold think "gold paint-marker" kind of gold. The usual shimmering ink caveats apply here (maybe more so than with some others since the shimmer settles very fast and there is a lot of it). You're going to need to agitate the pen frequently to avoid inconsistency, and I did find that it occasionally would clog some feeds. This is especially true if you are writing consistently for a time and the shimmer settles down into the nipple of the feed.

Beautiful Ink

I love this ink, it really stands out on a page. It is a shimmer ink, so I tend to have some flow issues. However, not near as much as Nemosine inks. The statement gold with gold sparkles is worth the occasional flow stoppage. I have several inks with sparkles, and this one is a little harder to clean than others. However, this is my only Robert Oster sparkle ink so I can't vouch for them. The ink performs adequately. As far as feathering and bleed-through go, it is on par with my other Robert Oster inks it dries normally as well. There is a decent amount of variation of color, but that might just be that some places with more sparkles then others, not the ink itself. This is why I gave it a neutral rating on the shading. All and all, this is a good ink even for the price.

Beautiful, but impractical

I really liked this ink, the color is beautiful and the shimmer looks fantastic, however I soon realized I cannot use it comfortably; the Pilot Metropolitan I tried it with clogs every 2 words, regardless of how much I shake the ink before filling (unless I don't shake, and in that case there's no shimmer), or roll the pen in my hands while writing. Then I have to press the converter a little bit so ink starts flowing again. It's a mess. The same pen works fine with many other inks I've tried (except Lamy Turquoise, for some reason), and I've already done very thorough cleaning before trying again with Heart of Gold, only to find it still clogs.

All that Glitters....

I wanted a sparkling gold ink for my Christmas Cards this year. I use a personal card which reflects my values and allows me to share some family/friend thoughts. I tried Robert Oster's Heart of Gold. I was impressed! The ink sparkled when applied and continued to sparkle when the friend/family received the card. I received many positive comments. As with any sparkling ink I had some concerns about it clogging the pen feed and nib. It did and over a three day period I needed to clean the pen once. Overall I enjoyed the experience and would recommend the ink to anyone wanting to write golden tidbits to share with others.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which pens can accept this ink? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

Any of these fountain pens will work with bottled ink. Typically, as long as the pen can be filled with a converter, has a built-in filling mechanism like a piston, or can be eyedropper-filled, it can accept bottled ink. You can also refill an empty ink cartridge from bottled ink using an ink syringe.

Is shimmering ink safe to use in fountain pens? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

Yes! Shimmering ink (a fountain pen ink that has small particles of glitter mixed in) is a great way to add some flare to your writing. We have found that a larger nib will showcase more shimmering particles while writing, but you can use any nib size with shimmering ink. While it is safe to use in fountain pens, it may require a little extra maintenance.

Due to the amount of particulate in this ink used to achieve the sparking look, you may experience restricted ink flow in some of your pens, especially with finer nibs.

We recommend shaking the ink thoroughly before filling, and gently rolling the pen in your hands often to keep the shimmer effect consistent. This will also help prevent clogging.

You will also want to be diligent about regularly cleaning and maintaining your pen when using this ink.
