a GREAT fall orange!

It's a slightly subdued color orange, fits with fall nicely. The shimmer brightens it beautifully and I love it. I want a bottle of this! just inked it so i won't know how clog-inducing it will be with my pen yet. it is just stunning! seems wet, but i didn't time the dry time. hard to stop looking at it!

Pretty, but a bit dry

Overall, the ink is very pretty, if a bit dry. It clogged my Lamy Vista, and just never really wrote as thick as it needs for the shimmer.

Super shimmery tangerine, even with a glass dip pen

I was amazed at how shimmery this ink is. Sure, it requires frequent gentle shaking like all shimmer inks, but I generally have low expectations with using a shimmer ink with a glass dip pen (because truth be told, I get lazy and only shake every few dips). But amazingly enough, almost every single word with this has some shimmer! The flow is nice but wet, so be aware there. The shading, too, is lovely and really apparent. Although nothing can replace Apache Sunset in my heart, this is my second favorite orange ink ever (and this from someone who normally doesn't care for the color orange).

Pleasing sparkle

I've been trying to get my 17 year old into fountain pens for a while now. This ink did it. Her favorite color is orange so I grabbed the orange Pilot Metro and a sample of this ink. It's a nice, juicy orange on its own, but the minute the light catches it, you get a nice sparkling effect. Tasteful, not gaudy hunks of glitter. I was also able to get a tiny bit of shading on Rhodia paper. Soaked in quick on regular notebook paper, dry time is pretty good on both papers. Water resistance is low for the color, but leaves behind the sparkle so you can at least read what was there. I haven't seen any flow issues with the pen due to the particulate, and I don't know how it is to clean out of the pen yet as my daughter filled the pen back up the minute she ran out. I have a feeling we'll be needing a bottle of this one.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is shimmering ink safe to use in fountain pens? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

Yes! Shimmering ink (a fountain pen ink that has small particles of glitter mixed in) is a great way to add some flare to your writing. We have found that a larger nib will showcase more shimmering particles while writing, but you can use any nib size with shimmering ink. While it is safe to use in fountain pens, it may require a little extra maintenance.

Due to the amount of particulate in this ink used to achieve the sparking look, you may experience restricted ink flow in some of your pens, especially with finer nibs.

We recommend shaking the ink thoroughly before filling, and gently rolling the pen in your hands often to keep the shimmer effect consistent. This will also help prevent clogging.

You will also want to be diligent about regularly cleaning and maintaining your pen when using this ink.

How do I fill my fountain pen from an ink sample vial? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

The technique depends on the fountain pen's filling mechanism.

How much writing can I really do with 2ml? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

We find that usually you can get 2 good fills for a typical converter with our ink samples, or one good fill with a large capacity piston-filling pen.

How much writing you can do depends on you more than anything else. It mostly depends on how big or small you write, and the nib size you’re using. We recommend experimenting with different nib sizes to find what works best for you.
