Celebrate the Chinese New Year with Visconti's Year of the Dragon limited edition. Year of the Dragon captures the majestic beauty and elegance of Chinese traditions while showcasing the artisanal skill and creativity of the Visconti craftsmen, who have meticulously crafted every detail.

Chinese New Year 2024 is the Year of the Wood Dragon, which begins on February 10, 2024, and ends on January 28th, 2025. The Dragon is a symbol of strength, courage, creativity and innovation in Chinese culture, and the wood element adds flexibility, adaptability and growth to its energy. 2024 is expected to be a year of potential and opportunity for those who are willing to embrace change and challenge themselves. The dragon also has a special significance in Chinese mythology and history. The five-clawed dragon was reserved for the emperor and the nobility, who claimed to be descendants of the dragon.

This pen is crafted from gold-plated sterling silver, intricately engraved to depict the shape of an exuberant fie-clawed Chinese dragon proudly standing among a background of small steam clouds. In fact, in Chinese culture, contrary to the West, the dragon is not associated with the element of fire as much as with water, steam, and clouds. Silhouetted against a red background, a traditionally auspicious color, the figure is further accentuated by the adept use of colored enameling and by a finely etched dragon-scale texture visible under a layer of semi-transparent enamel. To emphasize its auspicious power and nobility, Visconti designers decided to further enrich the look of the Imperial Dragon featured on the barrel by setting a precious red ruby in its eye. Even the clip detail was conceived to represent a golden Chinese dragon flying high over the clouds.

The fountain pen features Visconti's in-house 18k yellow gold nib. It also features Visconti's famous double reservoir power filling system, with a threaded cap closure. The collection is limited to 224 pieces worldwide.

Even the box that holds the pen is a little gem of design inspired by Far Eastern culture, reminiscent of the octagonal structures of Chinese pagodas. The cover of the box features an elaborate engraving on a gold background depicting the imperial Dragon to which the entire collection is dedicated. A rectangular window allows a view of this spectacular pen.

Please also note we are unable to accept a return of this pen for any reason once it has been used with ink. Please thoroughly inspect and dry test the pen before use.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I fill a fountain pen with ink? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

It depends on the pen's filling mechanism, which you can find in the Technical Specs section above.

Here's a quick definition of the most common filling mechanisms:

  • Cartridge - A small, disposable, sealed plastic reservoir that holds fountain pen ink. These come pre-filled with ink, and typically you just push to insert them into place and you'll be ready to write! Check out our quick guide here.
  • Converter - A detachable and refillable ink reservoir that allows you to use bottled ink in a cartridge-accepting pen. Typically you will install the converter into the grip section, dip the nib/feed into the ink, and twist or pull the converter knob to draw ink into the converter. Here's a video for how to fill a cartridge/converter pen using a LAMY pen as an example.
  • Eyedropper - A pen that utilizes the entire barrel as a reservoir for ink. Ink is directly filled into the barrel, allowing for a high ink capacity. Here's a video on how to do it!
  • Piston - A type of filling system that uses a retracting plunger inside a sealed tube to draw ink into a pen. They are typically either twist or push-operated. These pens cannot accept cartridges or a converter, and only fill from bottled ink.
  • Vacuum - A push-style piston that uses pressure to fill the large pen body with ink. They seal the ink chamber when closed, making it ideal for flying without risk of leaking. Check out our video on how to use a vac filler here.

How do I clean this fountain pen? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

It mostly comes down to flushing out the pen with water, and sometimes a little bit of pen flush if the ink is really stuck.

We put together a blog post with step-by-step instructions, or you can watch the video here:

We recommend a good cleaning every 2 weeks, and any time you change ink colors. Water will usually do the trick, but we recommend you use our Goulet Pen Flush if the ink has been left in the pen for a while and could have dried up, or when you’re switching ink colors.
