The Conklin Hippocrates family of writing instruments make the perfect gift for anyone just entering the profession, or as an elegant, everyday tool for even a seasoned practitioner.

The collection features a European-grade, hand-crafted smooth resin. The glossy black body is adorned with 18KT gilded rose gold elements representing iconic medical symbols, including the stethoscope, Bowl of Hygeia, DNA string, Heartbeat sign, Caduceus, and the Star of Life. The top of the cap boasts an 18KT gilded rose gold coin depicting Hippocrates, while the clip showcases the renowned rod of Asclepius in 18KT gilded rose gold.

The fountain pen boasts a premium rose gold-plated stainless steel nib, made in Germany by JoWo, the preeminent nib manufacturer in the world. The pen can easily be filled via standard international ink cartridges or high quality threaded piston converter (Included).

Very nice!

I bought this to study about medical care, and it motivates me. I hope to continue studying together in the future.

Great

As a doctor, who is now retired, I love this pen. It writes good too.

Beautiful Professional Pen

This was a bit of a whim purchase, because I couldn't resist the medical theme (I'm a pharmacist!) and the Conklin brand (I'm from Toledo!). So I was thrilled when the pen exceeded my expectations! It is simply lovely with a smooth glassy black finish, nice balance and weight, and rose gold nib and trim pieces. The JoWo nib is predictably smooth. I got this one with a M nib so I could use it as a regular writer but also feel comfortable using a little shimmer. It's a bit more of a gusher than some of my other JoWo M's, which is great! And the Rose Gold coating on the nib makes it extra smooth. It comes with a bottle of Conklin Hippocrates Black Ink. I decided to try it. I added a few drops of the Wearingeul Brain rose gold glitter. Brilliant on my part, if I do say so myself! It's a dark gray-black ink and must be a very wet ink. With the rose gold shimmer, it looks like the ink was made for the pen. I envision I'll be keeping this pen inked up, especially when I go to professional meetings. Pen-loving pharmacists everywhere will do an envious double-take!

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I use this pen with ink cartridges? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

A cartridge is small, disposable, sealed plastic reservoir that holds fountain pen ink. These come pre-filled with ink, and typically you just push to insert them into place and you'll be ready to write!

This pen uses standard international ink cartridges, a common size which is available in many colors from various brands.

You can learn more about how to actually install an ink cartridge on our blog, or in this video tutorial:

How do I use a converter? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

A converter goes in the place of where the ink cartridge would normally go. From there, you can fill your fountain pen from bottled ink.

A converter is a detachable and refillable ink reservoir that allows you to use bottled ink in a cartridge-accepting pen. Typically you will install the converter into the grip section, dip the nib/feed into the ink, and twist or pull the converter knob to draw ink into the converter.

We have a great video showing how to use a converter here:

How do I clean this fountain pen? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

It mostly comes down to flushing out the pen with water, and sometimes a little bit of pen flush if the ink is really stuck.

We put together a blog post with step-by-step instructions, or you can watch the video here:

We recommend a good cleaning every 2 weeks, and any time you change ink colors. Water will usually do the trick, but we recommend you use our Goulet Pen Flush if the ink has been left in the pen for a while and could have dried up, or when you’re switching ink colors.

For even more information about fountain pen cleaning, check out our Fountain Pen 101 video blog post.
