I liked this ink much better once I started thinking of it as Platinum Gray.

Platinum makes one of the best black fountain pen inks in the world, but this isn't Carbon Black, instead it's a neutral-tone, medium-dark gray similar to Diamine's similarly mis-named Quartz Black or Monteverde Smoke Noir. It behaves well, doesn't bleed through copier paper, and shades a bit. A solid choice if you want a gray ink for your Preppy, or a source of cartridges to refill with an actual black ink (there are certainly plenty of good ones from among which to choose).

Nice and Dark with Water

I am an Artist and Platinum ink is so nice to use with watercolor. If you let it dry and apply your washes over it its perfect! You can get a nice little movement if you are quick with your water brush.

Ink flows through my Platinum Fountain pen excellent. Very smooth and flows perfect with the paper I use. Drys quickly. Also flows smooth while writing in my journals, Great product.

Came with the Plaisir

On cheap paper it blobs a bit, not not the worst I've seen. On cheap paper (copy paper), its also highly water resistant, almost as much so as Noodler's Black. On Rhodia, it behaves as you would expect an ink to on Rhodia paper. However, its less water resistant. The writing is still legible, but washed out. The way I test water resistance is to write on paper and hold the sample under running water until it no longer changes. So worst case scenario: you rinse off whatever was on top. I rank the value low due to it being a cartridge. Also, its on the pricier side for a cartridge. This is also part of why I docked a star. The other reason being that I prefer a more saturated ink. To me, on the paper I've tested it on (copy paper, Rhodia, and Luechtturm) it appears to be a dark blue-ish grey. From a black, I expect black. If this was advertised as slate grey, I wouldn't be complaining, because it is is a lovely shade of slate grey.
