Visconti Opera Master Fountain Pen - Combustion (Limited Edition)
The iconic Visconti Opera Master returns to the collection in a version made in collaboration with Jonathon Brooks, a color called: Combustion.
This fountain pen features a black body and cap with beautiful shimmering swirls of red and orange. The beloved Ponte Vecchio bridge clip features a bright red enamel to accent the Visconti name. It is accented with ruthenium trim.
This Visconti Opera Master Combustion fountain pen is limited to only 88, each individually numbered. It uses an oversized 18k white gold nib made in-house, closes via the 'hook safe lock', and fills via the double reservoir power filler.
'Double Reservoir' Power Filler: A vacuum filling system that is easy to use and has considerable benefits. Patented in 1998, this is arguably the most advanced filling system ever developed in fountain pen history. The user is able to fill the pen with the equivalent of multiple cartridges of ink, and thanks to the two reservoirs, prevents ink from leaking during air travel.
'Hook Safe Lock': This revolutionary closing system is very satisfying to operate and was created to lock the pen body into the cap to prevent the possibility of the pen accidentally unscrewing and leaking inside a pocket or bag.

This pen is not the prettiest pen. Don't get me wrong, it is BEAUTIFUL. Hear me out. When you think of pretty pens, the Montegrappa Venetian or an Urushi come to mind. This pen, set side-by-side with the afore mentioned pens has a distinctly different aesthetic. I describe it as powerful. The fit and finish is utterly amazing, the nib is unreal, and the feal in the hand is brilliant. Caught in the right light and the barrel bursts into fiery life. Mix in the smoked finish on the metallic bits and you see what I mean when I say it isn't pretty. It is STUNNING. Powerfully stunning. No picture is going to do this pen justice. I don't have huge hands. I just as comfortable writing with a Pilot E95s that I am a Pilot Falcon, so you can understand why I was concerned this would be too much pen. I was very pleased to find out that the pen is extremely comfortable to write with. The square nature of the barrel doesn't feel too much, thanks to the rounded corners. Overall, this pen is powerful and pleasant to write with. If you are looking for a stunning pen with a presence that cannot be matched, you have found it.
This pen is gorgeous, and it writes so smoothly. It's an absolute gem. I have it filled with RO Red Gold. It's a grail pen, to be sure. It's a little heavy when capped, but without the cap it's nicely balanced. A real joy!
This is a Magnificent pen. I have always had such good experiences with Visconti as well as with Mr. Brooks resins so this was an obvious choice for me. It does not disappoint. When I first saw this Visconti Opera Master Combustion previewed by Brian and Drew I just KNEW I had to have one. I already had two Homosapiens in my collection (Bronze Age and Demostones) but this Opera master size and unique shape I knew I wanted if the design matched. Well the design matched with Combustion and I went to place my order andthe nib size I wanted was delayed which made me wait even longer. A month longer actually, BUT when I received the pen it was WORTH THE WAIT! It feels amazing in the hand, the resin is gorgeous, and it writes AMAZINGLY smooth and juicy. So glad I was able to purchase this one.
This is an amazing pen. The service I received from Goulet pens (Cindy) was also amazing. I wanted to take a step up to a gold nib pen, so I decided to leap instead of step. I was very nervous because as you research you see all of the negative, but I leapt anyway. I am sure there have been individual problems as these pens are not mass produced, but my pen is PERFECT! The fit and finish, the look, the feel, the way it writes...WOW! I tried my best to capture the "fire" in my pictures. It is very hard to do it justice, but I think the shimmer along with the reds, blacks, and oranges came through. It is truly beautiful. In the pictures you can see that it is a big pen. I put my Twisbi vac700r next to it and it is a bit larger than it. Not over the top, to me, but I have big hands. I can even write comfortably with it posted, although I doubt I will do that very often. The nib is Fine, and I debated whether to get fine or medium as I prefer wetter writing. The Fine nib writes nice and wet and is so smooth it's almost like I am just holding it and it is writing by itself. Since I am not going to but any crazy shimmering ink in it (ever), I decided to go with the Fine nib and I am very happy with that choice. Do not let the negative out there scare you away from getting an Opera Master. Go for it! As for me, I am thrilled with the Goulet exclusive Combustion. Definitely love at first write (Couldn't resist...Sorry)!

How do I fill a fountain pen with ink?
It depends on the pen's filling mechanism, which you can find in the Technical Specs section above.
Here's a quick definition of the most common filling mechanisms:
- Cartridge - A small, disposable, sealed plastic reservoir that holds fountain pen ink. These come pre-filled with ink, and typically you just push to insert them into place and you'll be ready to write! Check out our quick guide here.
- Converter - A detachable and refillable ink reservoir that allows you to use bottled ink in a cartridge-accepting pen. Typically you will install the converter into the grip section, dip the nib/feed into the ink, and twist or pull the converter knob to draw ink into the converter. Here's a video for how to fill a cartridge/converter pen using a LAMY pen as an example.
- Eyedropper - A pen that utilizes the entire barrel as a reservoir for ink. Ink is directly filled into the barrel, allowing for a high ink capacity. Here's a video on how to do it!
- Piston - A type of filling system that uses a retracting plunger inside a sealed tube to draw ink into a pen. They are typically either twist or push-operated. These pens cannot accept cartridges or a converter, and only fill from bottled ink.
- Vacuum - A push-style piston that uses pressure to fill the large pen body with ink. They seal the ink chamber when closed, making it ideal for flying without risk of leaking. Check out our video on how to use a vac filler here.

How do I clean a fountain pen?
It depends on the filling mechanism, but it mostly comes down to flushing it out with water, and sometimes a little bit of Pen Flush if the ink is really stuck.
It's a bit easier to show than to tell, so we've put together a few quick videos showing you the process:
How often do I need to clean my fountain pen?
We recommend a good cleaning every 2 weeks, and any time you change ink colors.
Water will usually do the trick, but we recommend you use our Goulet Pen Flush if the ink has been left in the pen for a while and could have dried up, or when you’re switching ink colors.
My pen won’t write! What do I do?
First things first... make sure you have ink in the pen! Be sure that the ink cartridge or converter is seated properly in the pen, and that you aren't out of ink.
We always recommend you give your pen a good cleaning first, using our Goulet Pen Flush, or a drop of dish soap in some water. New pens often have some machining oil residue left in the feed, so a good cleaning often does the trick first.
If that still doesn't work, try priming the feed. This consists of either dipping your pen nib and feed in ink, or forcing ink from the converter down into the feed.
