The Monteverde Ritma™ collection is inspired by the minimalist movement of the 1960’s and 70’s, where clean lines, straightforward designs and beautiful colors within work were the most prominent. Machined to perfection using a mixture of steel and aluminum, the Ritma™ boasts a streamlined design from magnetic cap top to back post, perfect for those who prefer a well balanced and heavyweight pen.

Each aluminum barrel is anodized in a metallic color and treated with a matte finish, resulting in a muted pop of vibrant colors that are soft to the touch and beautifully accentuated with polished gunmetal accents. The clip is designed to match the straight lines of the body style with an extra flair, the center cut in an elongated oval shape for ease of use.

An exciting feature of this minimalist pen is the magnetic cap and posting, so secure and perfectly designed to the pen it creates a seal. No need to twist off, gently pull and enjoy the striking pop-action sound of the seal opening, then post to the back to experience the secure magnetic seal there as well.

This black fountain pen comes with a standard international converter and an ink cartridge.

This fountain pen is offered with your choice of a reliable, smooth-writing German made JoWo #6 black steel nib in extra-fine, fine, medium, broad, 1.1mm stub or the new JoWo Omniflex flexible steel nib for variation in line width. With six nib options, you are sure to find a selection to fit your handwriting style.

Our note about the JoWo Omniflex nib: This flex nib will allow you to experience more bounce and softness than writing with conventional nibs. You can achieve some line variation with a little additional downward pressure, to a point. We recommend flexing the nib to about twice the line width that you would see without using any pressure. Please take care to avoid pressing too hard on the nib, as over-flexing could prevent the tines from returning fully to their original position and decrease or stop your ink flow.

Very nice, solid, attractive.

This is a very, very nice fountain pen. Straight barrel shape, nice feel in the hand. Some reviewers have noted it's a bit too heavy for comfortable writing for long periods of time, I've had no issues with that, so your mileage may vary. The magnetic cap is a very nice touch, reduces the chance you'll lose the cap (which happens).

I Love it, but there are a few issues.

I am using the second one I bought. I find that in use it is a fine pen and works generally very well. There are several problems. I have found that I can not count on the pen staying together when carried in a suit coat pocket because the magnetic cap can become loose, so I use my pen that has a screw top when I'm out and about. Also, the way the cartridge fits is not secure enough. I have found that if I put a very small piece of tape around the part of the cartridge that fits into pen head, I can be pretty sure that it won't come loose. Lastly, I find that if I need to change the nib, it must be done when the pen is new. The reason I bought a second one is that I dropped my first one and damaged the nib, but was not able to remove the nib, and In the process, I damaged the pen. No amount of soaking would loosen the nib.

I would still purchase another one.

MonteVerde Ritma

Heavier than I expected, but no problem. I like the magnetic closure. The Omniflex nib isn't as flexible as I'd hoped, but I didn't quite know what to expect. It's a nice Medium type nib and I love the dark color of it.

The clip is too stiff to be of use to me. I like to clip my pen to the collar of my shirt, and this is far too tight to work there.

The barrel often comes loose and I have to screw it back down before I can write with it.

Feels good in the hand. I like the magnet to post the cap on the back.

FAQs about Fountain Pens

How do I fill a fountain pen with ink? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

It depends on the pen's filling mechanism, which you can find in the Technical Specs section above.

Here's a quick definition of the most common filling mechanisms:

  • Cartridge - A small, disposable, sealed plastic reservoir that holds fountain pen ink. These come pre-filled with ink, and typically you just push to insert them into place and you'll be ready to write! Check out our quick guide here.
  • Converter - A detachable and refillable ink reservoir that allows you to use bottled ink in a cartridge-accepting pen. Typically you will install the converter into the grip section, dip the nib/feed into the ink, and twist or pull the converter knob to draw ink into the converter. Here's a video for how to fill a cartridge/converter pen using a LAMY pen as an example.
  • Eyedropper - A pen that utilizes the entire barrel as a reservoir for ink. Ink is directly filled into the barrel, allowing for a high ink capacity. Here's a video on how to do it!
  • Piston - A type of filling system that uses a retracting plunger inside a sealed tube to draw ink into a pen. They are typically either twist or push-operated. These pens cannot accept cartridges or a converter, and only fill from bottled ink.
  • Vacuum - A push-style piston that uses pressure to fill the large pen body with ink. They seal the ink chamber when closed, making it ideal for flying without risk of leaking. Check out our video on how to use a vac filler here.

Check out more info on these filling mechanisms including a video on how to fill each one on our blog.

How do I clean a fountain pen? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

It depends on the filling mechanism, but it mostly comes down to flushing it out with water, and sometimes a little bit of Pen Flush if the ink is really stuck.

It's a bit easier to show than to tell, so we've put together a few quick videos showing you the process:

How often do I need to clean my fountain pen? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

We recommend a good cleaning every 2 weeks, and any time you change ink colors.

Water will usually do the trick, but we recommend you use our Goulet Pen Flush if the ink has been left in the pen for a while and could have dried up, or when you’re switching ink colors.

My pen won’t write! What do I do? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

First things first... make sure you have ink in the pen! Be sure that the ink cartridge or converter is seated properly in the pen, and that you aren't out of ink.

We always recommend you give your pen a good cleaning first, using our Goulet Pen Flush, or a drop of dish soap in some water. New pens often have some machining oil residue left in the feed, so a good cleaning often does the trick first.

If that still doesn't work, try priming the feed. This consists of either dipping your pen nib and feed in ink, or forcing ink from the converter down into the feed.

If it’s still not working after that, please reach out to us so we can help!
