This LAMY Lx ("Luxe") fountain pen features a body made from ruthenium-colored double-anodized aluminum, a ruthenium-coated clip, a translucent grey triangular grip section, and a black glossy interchangeable steel nib.

There are lot of subtle details on the Lx as an enhancement over the similar AL-star model, including matching metal accents on the cap end and barrel end with a shiny diamond polish, a glossy LAMY logo on the barrel, and the laser engraving on the nib. While slightly different in appearance than the other LAMY steel nibs, they are indeed swappable as well.

This pen comes with a matching ruthenium-colored anodized aluminum pen case. It also comes with a blue LAMY ink cartridge so you can get started writing right away. If you'd like to use bottled fountain pen ink, you can also purchase a LAMY Z28 converter.

Note: To ensure quality performance, LAMY tests their pens as a final step in manufacturing. If you happen to see any residual blue ink, rest assured that this is normal.

Lamy LX is fantastic

I've use TWSBI pens for several years, so this is my first Lamy. Writes fantastic and looks just as fantastic. It is lighter than I anticipated also. My only caution is to be careful when unboxing. While it comes in a really nice matching metal tube, that time comes in a rectangle cardboard package with no ends. A soon as I picked it up, it slid out of the cardboard and hit the floor with a depressing thud. The pen was fine, but the metal tube has a big dent in it. So, hold on tight when you unbox! As always, Goulet Pens is the best at packaging their shipments. Top notch.

Another awesome Lamy!

I haven't used it too much but I love it! I got too many pens at once, but it's next in my rotation. I love the larger size and that it is all metal. I feel like it will be a bit more sturdy, no that there is a problem with any of the Safaris I have. It is a great pen and I look forward to many years of enjoyment.

Workhorse

This is my primary work pen and after about three weeks of continuous use I couldn't be more satisfied. I'm an operations manager in a manufacturing facility and attend many meetings and take many notes. This pen is a joy to write with.

A place where confidence and service comes together.

Following this website not only for advice but also as a serious fountain pen reference. This is my first purchase but it will not the last. Thanks to keep this passion alive.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I fill this LAMY fountain pen with ink? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

This fountain pen can fill with proprietary LAMY ink cartridges, or from a LAMY converter.

A cartridge is small, disposable, sealed plastic reservoir that holds fountain pen ink. These come pre-filled with ink, and typically you just push to insert them into place and you'll be ready to write!

This pen uses proprietary LAMY ink cartridges, which are available in a range of colors.

As for converters, LAMY does make two different converters - the red Z28, and the black Z27. All of their fountain pens (except the 2000) can accept the black Z27; typically this converter is included with the higher-end LAMY pens like the aion, cp1, scala, and studio. The red Z28 has additional knobs for a more secure installation that is compatible (and sold separately) on the AL-star, joy, and safari.

We've got a great video demonstrating both filling methods here:

How do I clean a fountain pen? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

It depends on the filling mechanism, but it mostly comes down to flushing it out with water, and sometimes a little bit of Pen Flush if the ink is really stuck.

It's a bit easier to show than to tell, so we've put together a few quick videos showing you the process:

We recommend a good cleaning every 2 weeks, and any time you change ink colors. Water will usually do the trick, but we recommend you use our Goulet Pen Flush if the ink has been left in the pen for a while and could have dried up, or when you’re switching ink colors.
