So happy about this set...

I really wanted to hunt down and try several of the inks in this set. It also has several inks in it that I was not really aware had these properties. Having them all collected for me so I could just order them and get to play with all these inks? Very, very nice. I have been more pleased with some inks than others, but I have fun getting to play with these beautiful inks in my pens regardless of whether they go on my list of inks I'd like to have a whole bottle of. Absolutely worth the price.

Beautiful shading inks

I love this sample set! My friend and I got out our glass dip pen and tried them out on a few different kinds of paper. The effects were different depending on the paper. Tomoe River Cosmo paper, which normally makes my inks pop, washed out the chromoshading effects of Manyo Koke and Studio 173, for instance, but they displayed more depth and shading on midori paper and Stalogy pages. I ultimately have had trouble choosing which inks to put in my pens first - they're all so lovely, and some are so subtle.Only negative: some of the inks shade so strongly that they're almost difficult to read, but a fine nib helps average it out so they're legible.

How do I fill my fountain pen from an ink sample vial? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

The technique depends on the fountain pen's filling mechanism.

How much writing can I really do with 2ml? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

We find that usually you can get 2 good fills for a typical converter with our ink samples, or one good fill with a large capacity piston-filling pen.

How much writing you can do depends on you more than anything else. It mostly depends on how big or small you write, and the nib size you’re using. We recommend experimenting with different nib sizes to find what works best for you.

What does it mean if an ink has shading or sheen? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

Shading is a common (and often desired) result of a fountain pen ink pooling in certain parts of a letter when writing, so that the color and saturation of the ink appears different within a single letter or word. This characteristic cannot be achieved with ballpoint or rollerball pens and is a very appealing aspect of fountain pen use for those particularly drawn to all the pretty ink colors.

Sheen is a characteristic of a fountain pen ink where, when ink pools, another color can be seen on top of the ink. It is more pronounced when looked at in different light angles using certain paper types. There is no way to guarantee an ink will sheen, but using a larger nib on a pen may help obtain better sheening results in your writing.
