on saleRohrer & Klingner Alt-Bordeaux - 50ml Bottled Ink

I had never used Rohrer & Klingner inks beore, but was looking for a good purple and really liked the color on the swabs on gouletpens.com. After purchasing the ink, I think I made the right choice. The color is nice, and rich, but not too saturated, and has got a bit of a dry flow to it which I appreciate in my inks. On top of that I got goulet's fantastic packaging and signed cards, which just made the purchase even better. Overall very pleased with yet another purchase from goulet pens, and hope to continue to be their customer.

This ink is very beautiful, and slightly darker with less pink and more brown undertones than appears on my screen (but that could just be my screen on my geriatric computer). I used it in a pen with a broad nib, so it has lovely shading, is easily legible and well behaved. It ends up looking almost antiqued on cream paper, which is really beautiful and charming for handwritten letters. It washed out of my pen without any staining.

This is a very dark red-purple, nearly black. A purple that can go to the office. I like it for long note-taking where a dark ink makes it easier to go back and read a very long bunch of text.

I'm not sure how it happened, but when I looked back at writing with this ink, I mixed it up with other samples using J. Herbin's Larmes de Cassis. They were very similar to my eye, but for Alt-Bordeaux being slightly more saturated and reddish. Both were very faded and pale with the EF nib I wanted to use the inks with and lacked any kind of real presence on the page. Probably much better with a wetter, broader nib.

Not sure how I feel about this ink . . . it seems to very a lot depending on what pen I use. Sometimes it's really dark and looks almost brownish and sometimes it's really light and distinctly purple. It flows just fine and had decent shading, but I'm not sure how I feel about the color.
