Lovely color, good flow

Although there are many great orange inks (Diamine makes a lot of great ones) this ink is not disappointing and you get the beautiful flask, which is really the best reason to get it. I filled a Conklin Duragraph in Amber (nice pen!) in fine nib with this ink and I've refilled it more than once, meaning it's an ink I like to use again and again. I make notes on my guitar practice in a Leuchturm notebook and it doesn't bleed, it dries well and it looks pleasant on the warm paper. It's not super bright, but it's not washed out, either. It flows beautifully in the pen. If I wanted a brighter orange, I'd buy one of Diamine's many oranges (great value, too.) But this is a great medium orange juice orange and I really enjoy using it.

polite orange

I got this as part of the ink sample by color to try out in my new Metro Pop Orange. As was true for my other Edelstein inks, the flow was very good in my Metro fine. The color was pleasing, but not vibrant--I'm a big fan of knock your socks off color, so I felt this one was just too polite. I'll use it till the pen is empty and then never again.

Cantaloupe Color

In a Lamy Al-Star, Edelstein Mandarin is very wet, but does not feather (at least that I could tell) on moderate to heavy paper, and has beautiful shading. Unfortunately, the color is less saturated than I would like, but that may be a personal thing. It was probably also a mistake to put this ink on cream/ivory paper. The ink did not pop as much as it might have on plain white paper. I found that the dry time was actually not too long (5-6 seconds on an informal smear test) but probably not ideal for quick notes. Then again, this isn't a color I would use for quick notes. Conclusion: Wet ink that shades beautifully, writes in the color of cantaloupes or pumpkins, use on not-cream/ivory paper.

Edelstein Inks...Mandarin and Topaz

I must agree with the first review posted on the Edelstein inks. The presentation is attractive. Both the packaging and the heavy glass bottle earn high marks. The branding is actually etched onto the bottle including the ink color, and really feels substantial. I found the Mandarin a bit light for my taste but the Topaz is beautiful. It does seem to offer a drier line that the J. Herbin does in my Faber Castell Intuition. Yet I do love the coloring of the ink. I would love to see Pelikan add to this line of colors and follow what Pilot has done with their Iroshizuku inks.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which pens can accept this ink? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

Any of these fountain pens will work with bottled ink. Typically, as long as the pen can be filled with a converter, has a built-in filling mechanism like a piston, or can be eyedropper-filled, it can accept bottled ink. You can also refill an empty ink cartridge from bottled ink using an ink syringe.
